Chaowu Pier is one of the four major piers at Sun Moon Lake and is an ideal spot for sunrise viewing when looking eastward. Due to the unique climate, terrain, and hydrology, the lake is often shrouded in mist during early mornings. The scene is especially enchanting as the rising sun illuminates the mist, earning Chaowu Pier the reputation as "Shuishe Morning Mist," one of the eight famous views of Sun Moon Lake.

Wenwu Temple Hiking Trail
Due to their precarious height, the Year-of-Steps are nicknamed the “Stairway to Heaven”. There are 366 ascending steps, each representing one day of the year. The climbing of this entire stairway symbolizes the passing of a year. A date is carved on each of the stone steps, along with the names of internationally famous people who were born on the corresponding date.
The Shuishe Dam section is entirely wooden-paved and cycling is prohibited. Please walk your bike through this section.
