Huanhu Bikeway
Cycling around the entire Sun Moon Lake is a must-do activity, offering stunning views of the lake and mountains. Along the way, you can sample local Ita Thao cuisine and take breaks at famous spots, enjoying the leisurely atmosphere of Sun Moon Lake. Once recognized by CNN as one of the "Top 10 Most Beautiful Bicycle Trails in the World" the Xiangshang section is also the most popular cycling route. The flat terrain connects Shuishe to Xiangshang Visitor Center, making it ideal for leisurely rides. One highlight is the 400-meter "Waterfront Bikeway" that is elevated above the lake, allowing cyclists to experience the tranquil beauty of Sun Moon Lake.

Starting from Shuishe Pier, this section passes through the Jioulongkou platform, offering a distant view of Ci'en Pagoda, Qinglong Mountain, and Erlong Mountain. The route from The Lalu Hotel to Wenwu Temple involves a mild climb, with the final reward being a visit to the grand temple and the Year of Steps, where you can find your birthday step.

The Songbolun section is approximately 1.5 kilometers long, linking Songbolun to Dajhuhu. The gently sloping path is surrounded by lush greenery, and you can occasionally catch glimpses of the lake through the foliage. In the afternoon, you can enjoy the beautiful sunset at Dajhuhu, making it an ideal place for a prayerful journey that includes Wenwu Temple and the Year of Steps.

The Ita Thao section starts from the bustling Ita Thao Old Street and connects to the Shuiwatou Hiking Trail. Along the way, you can see the vibrant overhead cable cars and the famous Nine Frog Stack statue. The recently completed "Ita Thao (Takrahaz) Water Cycling Path," spanning 600 meters, offers stunning lake and mountain views, with art installations featuring indigenous elements like the "Fish-shaped Platform" and the "Fish Basket-shaped Flower Stand," making for a unique cycling experience.

Starting from Xiangshan Visitor Center and heading south along the lakeshore, this section passes through the southern part of the lake, Toushe Dam, and Crescent Bay. Crescent Bay is a hidden gem with few visitors, allowing you to enjoy a serene and peaceful atmosphere. If you’re lucky, you might witness the rare natural phenomenon known as "Angel's Tears." However, the route from Crescent Bay to the Huanhu No. 1 Tunnel is more challenging, with varying slopes and elevations.
